The ECOTROPHELIA Spain awards, organized by FIAB with the participation of relevant representatives from the industry, technological centers and policy makers such as the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), brought together young university talent to showcase the future of sustainable food innovation.
Celebrated at Fundación Alicia headquarters—a leading research center dedicated to technological innovation in cuisine, health, and sustainability—the competition featured creative projects from university students who presented their groundbreaking food products to a panel of experts from major food industry companies and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture.
The jury evaluated each proposal based on criteria including: Eco-design of the product, Innovations in packaging and sustainability, Valorization of by-products and Strategies to reduce food waste.
This unique framework encourages students not only to think about flavor and functionality but also about the environmental and social impact of their innovations.
The ECOTROPHELIA Spain competition is part of a Europe-wide program designed to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable food development among students.
Spotlight on the CHORIZO Project
In addition to student presentations, FIAB introduced the European CHORIZO project as a key initiative to combat food waste across Europe. By integrating research, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, CHORIZO aims to generate practical solutions that can be applied throughout the food supply.
