25th – 26th February 2025

Last week, the CHORIZO project consortium gathered at the Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, in Italy, for its General Assembly. This two-day meeting brought together all project partners to discuss the project progress, share insights, and make a common strategy for the next steps to be followed in the last months of the project.

A Collaborative Effort to Reduce Food Waste

The General Assembly was a great opportunity to organize different interactive workshops, to actively involve all partners and share ideas for the next months of the project.

The first session was led by UNIBO, focused on the design of the FLW Rapid Appraisal Tool (also called the Visualizer) and the expected functionalities. The aim of the tool is to easily access the main outcomes of different scenarios providing end-users a rapid appraisal of the impact generated by different interventions towards 0 Food Lost and Waste (FLW). The UNIBO team gathered feedback from partners during the first workshop and will continue working on improving the tool.

During the first day, CHORIZO partners also work on the design of different communication and educational products, getting additional ideas as preliminary validation of the products. UCPH team collected feedback from partners after the interactive session.

The afternoon continued with discussions about the Capacity Building organized by CSCP. This training program will allow participants to design effective and tailored interventions to reduce waste, and to increase awareness in their organizations and among their end-users. Different training workshops will be developed during the next months of the project focusing on food waste reduction measures for the following sectors: cities, food banks, food services, schools and general public.

Our colleagues from FIAB concluded the first day with a recap of all communication and dissemination activities, highlighting the excellent involvement of partners, which enabled CHORIZO to be present at key relevant events, such as the “Let’s Reduce Consumer Food Waste” conference in Brussels on June 5, 2024.

The second day, ILVO, in collaboration with INLECOM, took the lead in presenting different dynamic workshop sessions focused on scaling up the Food Loss and Waste DataHub and INSIGHTER tool. The DataHub was created to collect valuable data and results target on different user profiles such as: Scientific Community, Food Banks and NGOs, Food Services, Educational Institutions, Food Industry among others. These sessions allow other partners to navigate the tool’s functionalities and assess its potential impact. Valuable feedback was gathered, helping to improve the tool for greater efficiency and usability.

Looking Ahead

Special greetings to the University of Bologna who hosted the meeting for their exceptional organization and hospitality, but also to all partners who actively contributed to the discussions and workshops.

As the CHORIZO project progresses, the insights gained from this General Assembly will be essential in defining strategies and tools to combat food waste effectively. The consortium remains committed to fostering collaboration and innovation in this critical area.
