On Wednesday, 9th April, the 7th webinar of the City Interest Group (CIG) on Food Waste Prevention brought together cities and experts to explore the importance of multi-level governance in developing effective food waste prevention strategies. The session, hosted by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, Europe, as part of the CHORIZO project, focused on the critical role of coordination across policy levels and stakeholders in tackling food waste in urban areas.
During the session, we had the opportunity to learn about the successful bottom-up efforts to pass food loss and waste prevention legislation in Spain, with a testimonial from Fundació Espigoladors, made by Berta Vidal.
ICLEI also took the chance to make an overview on the role of multi-level governance in food waste prevention, highlighting the importance of aligning local, regional, and national policies.
The webinar opened the floor for discussion, with participants reflecting on the structural gaps and opportunities in current governance systems.
